The reversible lattice stitch was originally worked up as an afghan by Laura (SkaMom36@aol.com).I have also done a small baby afghan in this same stitch,
A large picture of the dishcloth (both sides) is displayed on Laura's Site - just click on the following: Picture of dishcloth.
Dishcloth and Pattern directions written by Mary J. Wood from a sample of this stitch graciously shared by Laura (SkaMom36.aol.com).
Rating:
Although the directions are lengthy , this is one of those patterns that's fairly easy to do but hard to explain. I would recommend this pattern for advanced intermediate (or adventurous intermediate) crocheters . Once you get through the first 8 rows, the rest is easy (and you probably won't even need the pattern directions anymore)
Notes:
Materials For Dishcloth:
4 ply cotton: 2 Oz Yellow (Color A) and 2 Oz. White (Color B)
Size H hook
Size: Gauge not very important. 3 shells = 4" Dishcloth square measures 7 ½ x 8"
Special Stitches:
Shell stitch: (2 dc, ch 1, 2dc) in indicated stitch
DIRECTIONS FOR DISHCLOTH
With color A , Chain 22 Loosely (you may want to use a bigger hook for the foundation chs)
Row 1: In 5th ch from hook, 2dc, ch 1, 2dc (shell made). *Skip 3 chs, Shell in next st*. Repeat from * to * across row ending with a dc in last remaining ch. Mark this side as the right side. Ch 6, turn.(5 Shells).
Row 2: With the same color, *skip next shell (all 4 dcs), sc in space between 2 shells, ch 6*. Repeat from * to * across row (ending with a sc after the last shell and around the ch4 from the previous row). Drop color but DO NOT cut yarn. Turn. (5 ch6 loops)
Row 3: NOTE: Hold the Ch 6 loops from Row 2 down in front of work and DO NOT WORK THROUGH THESE ch loops-Just let them "dangle" in front.
With right side facing, attach Color B with a Sl st around the first ch4 from Row 1. Note this sl stitch should be placed to the LEFT of the last sc worked with color A and to the right of the first Color A shells
With Color B, Ch 4. *Shell in Ch 1 space of Shell made with Color A* . Repeat from * to * across row ending with a dc around the post of the last Color A dc. Ch 6, turn. (5 Shells).

Row 5: NOTE: Hold the ch 6 loops worked in the same color(3 rows back) next to the top of the shells. Push back the ch 6s worked in color B(previous row) to the back of the work and out of the way , letting them dangle in back.
Picking up Color A, Ch 4. Catching the ch 6 loop, work Shell in the Ch 1 space of each Color B shell ( by inserting hook under the (same color) Ch 6 loop and under the Ch 1 space of the shell) . End with a dc around the post of the Color B dc. NOTE: Do NOT work the last dc through the ch6 loop. Ch 6, turn.(5 Shells).
Row 6: Repeat Row 4
