SOUTH BAY CROCHET

Cro-Hook Potholder

Materials

120 yards of worsted weight cotton: 75 yards of Color A (this is also the color for the edging); 45 yards of Color B
Size K (6.5 mm) cro-hook,
Size K (6.5 mm) crochet hook (or size required to make gauge)

chain (ch),
slip stitch (ss),
single crochet (sc),
half-double crochet (hdc),
yarn over (yo),
skip (sk),
stitch (st)

Gauge
4 stitches and 4 rows per inch; finished potholder is 6" x 6"

Potholder Directions

Using cro-hook and Color A, ch 20 loosely.

Row 1: Working in back loops of ch, insert hook into first ch from hook, yo and pull up a loop, leaving it on the hook. Continue to end of ch (21 loops on hook). Drop Color A, move work to other end of cro-hook and turn. With Color B, yo and pull through 1 loop, yo and pull through 2 loops to end (1 loop left on hook).

Row 2: Continuing with Color B, insert hook under 2nd vertical bar, yo and pull up a loop, leaving it on the hook. Continue to end of row (21 loops on hook). Drop Color B, move work to other end of cro-hook and turn. With Color A, yo and pull through 1 loop, yo and pull through 2 loops to end (1 loop left on hook).

Rows 3 – 22: Proceed with the method described for Row 2, dropping one color after pulling loops onto the hook, then working them off with the other color; finish with Color A. To bind off, insert hook under the vertical bar as though beginning another row, yo and pull through both loops (1 ss). Continue across row in the same way, leaving loops loose. Do NOT finish off.

Edging

Using regular crochet hook and continuing in Color A: ch 1, sk end st of 1st row, work hdc into end of next 20 rows, sk 1 row, ch 1; sc in each st across, ch 1; sk end st of 1st row, work hdc into end of next 20 rows, sk 1 row, ch 1; sc in each st across. Do NOT finish off.

Loop

Ss into back loop of 1st ch 1 of edging; ch 14, sc into same back loop as original ss. Working in back loops only of chain loop, ss into each ch st. Ss into original ss as before and finish off.
